The Area

The immediate surrounding area offers walking along the tree-lined canal and river banks, the unspoilt village of Couze and the nearby small town of Lalinde. Lalinde has many more facilities yet retains its original character.  Apart from numerous shops and a Thursday market, Lalinde has banks, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, an information centre and—of course—more patisseries. Excellent wines are available locally from vineyards, domaines, caves, local shops and supermarkets—at very reasonable prices.

Lanquais

Lanquais village is approximately 4 kilometres south west of Couze—and can be reached on foot through fields and woods. There is a swimming lake and a chateau, all in a beautiful setting.  The lake is ideal for a family day out.

1 Small boats for hire on the lake at Lanquais.  An area with a sandy beach is also set aside for swimming. 2

Below are some of the reputed 1,001 medieval castles, fortified chateaux and towns in the Dordogne valley, easily accessible by car from Couze.

Another view of the river from the cingle (loop) at Trémolat. Canoeing is a very popular activity on the Dordogne and there are many centres where you can hire canoes. Or you can take a ride in a gabare for a more leisurely trip along the river. Domme
